A Private Residence Above the River

The Challenge
A patio laid out in wide panels on a bench above the river, finished to the edge of the drop-off. Every joint runs the full width, and a banded border wraps the whole field — so a line that wanders anywhere shows everywhere.
The Approach
- 01
Laid Out
Panel grid and border widths set before any concrete arrived. On a job like this the layout is the design — once it's poured, it's poured.
- 02
Formed
Edge formed along the drop-off above the water, where there's no room to work from the low side.
- 03
Poured
Poured in panels so each one could be worked while it was ready.
- 04
Finished
Field hand-troweled flat — the wide open panels are where a poor finish would show first.
- 05
Detailed
Border banded in a contrasting texture and color, run around the field and between the panels.
The Result
The line holds all the way to the edge.
